A company called 21st Century 3D has released a stereoscopic Hi-Def video camera that, along with capturing RAW CCD data in 4:4:4 color space, actually records onto two Mac Minis. Panasonic AG-DVX100A series cameras serve for the camera portion, capturing 3D video at 24fps and 720p resolution. Data is send directly from the
camcorder to the computers via USB.
From what I can tell, Mac’s OS X runs off of an 8gb flash memory module inside each Mini, greatly increasing startup time overall performance. Video is recorded onto removable 100gb hard drives, and each will give you an hour of recorded footage per eye.
I would have been much more excited had they put this kind of functionality into your usual one-eye camcorder. Who really uses stereoscopic footage anymore?
