redgiantsoftware_1884_2000373.jpgRed Giant Software has just released the Macintosh version of their Film Fix film restoration plug-in for After Effects. Users who are transferring film to HD will want to take a close look at this software, which allows restoration of tears, removal of dust and hair, and stabilization of footage. One can also harness the power of a network of computers to do all the processing work. Here is a ditty from the release:

Film Fix utilizes a fast, accurate motion estimation system, which processes pixel-accurate image data at different scales similar to the way the human eye views the world. These powerful, intelligent algorithms allow it to identify problems such as dust, dirt, and tearing despite complex motion in the footage. Once identified, these artifacts are quickly and naturally removed.

It is available for both Windows and Mac, and if you already own the Windows version you can get a free cross-grade to the Mac version. Film Fix retails for $1,995, a pretty penny for most but the dedicated indie may want to check this out.
