ITnews1144.jpgOK, so it’s only going to be for servers when it first comes out, but one can hope, right? Intel has announced that its four-core processor, dubbed Clovertown (do a Google search for “Clovertown,” kind of funny), will be available in early 2007.

Core expansion will be a dominant theme for Intel over the next few years, said Chief Technology Officer Justin Rattner. By the end of the decade, chips with tens of cores will be possible, while in 10 years, it’s theoretically possible that chips with hundreds of cores will come out, he added.

Hundreds of cores!? Imagine one core for every few frames of that After Effects composition that used to take hours to render! Fortunately it’s not only Intel, because AMD will also be coming out with quad-core processors in 2007. This is not really new news, as Quad-core tumblings have been around since last year, but I wanted to post this up as a sort of update.
