bubbleposter_200.jpgOn January 31, Steven Soderbergh’s new movie, Bubble, was released simultaneously in theaters, on HDTV, and on DVD in an attempt to redefine the way we experience new movies. Mark Cuban along with the IFC have been the major players responsible for allowing this to happen. NPR has had some good articles and interviews on the subject, and the Sun-Sentinel.com does a good breakdown of what one will gain with the DVD’s extra features, and miss in theaters. For $29.98, I’m not sure the DVD will be worth it right away, though.

Personally I like the idea of simultaneous release, but I have a feeling that the theater chains boycotting these movies is going to make this impossible. However, hopefully this will give them a wakeup call to get their acts together.
