Sony has just announced two new HDV recorders capable of both SD and HD 1080i recording. If you want to make the switch to HD, but still have some SD projects to do, then the dual capability may interest you. The HVR-M15U is the runt of the litter; compact and versatile, it gives you the basics like IEEE 1394, S-Video I/O, composite I/O, analog audio I/O, and component output. The HVR-M25U gives you all of the above plus a 2.7″ 16:9 LCD screen, as well as HDMI output.

You can expect these decks to cost a pretty penny, although no price has been set as of yet. They are scheduled to be released in June.
