March 9th, 2006 - Filed under: Backup

logo.gifAccording to the BBC, an observant blogger found slide notes in an accidentally published Google slideshow that point to a “total storage” plan in the works. The project, called GDrive, would effectively mirror users’ hard drives, allowing them to backup their data and access their files at any time, from anywhere. Google spokeswoman Lynn Fox had this to say:

We deleted the slide notes because they were not intended for publication. We are constantly working on new ways to enhance our products and services for users, but have nothing to announce at this time.

Sounds like there is something going on to me. I like the concept of the GDrive, but I cringe at the thought of the bandwidth requirements and the fact that a third party would have ALL of my files in their hands.
