macbook-pro.jpgLooks like the MacBook Pro is definitely a winner when it comes to digital video editing. AV Producer has written a benchmark analysis comparing the 2.16Ghz MacBook Pro laptop to a dual 2Ghz G5 desktop system. The test benchmarked performance in Final Cut Pro 5.1, Motion 2, and Compressor 2, and, boy, were the results astounding!

At least four different tests were run in each program, and in all but a few the MacBook Pro beat out the G5. Sometimes the results were within a few seconds of each other, but in many the MacBook Pro was much faster than the G5. Final Cut Pro users don’t rejoice too much, yet, because the MacBook Pro wasn’t all that much faster, but it did hold its own. However, users of Motion 2 will be happy to find that the MacBook Pro greatly out-performed the G5 in all four tests.

What amazes me is the fact that this is a mobile processor beating out a desktop processor. Who would have thought? Seems to me that videographers who are always on the go will find Apple’s Intel-based laptops a great investment.
