SMSC has announced a new USB hub that will allow two different computers to utilize devices connected to the hub … at the same time. Apparently it creates its own little network behind the scenes, allowing two computers to interface flawlessly with USB devices. Digital cameras, memory sticks, and hard drives are among the many devices that can be connected to this hub. Why do I think this is great? Think workflow.

Imagine having two computers able to use the same external hard drive while you’re working on editing your video. You don’t have to set up a network between the two and have gigabit cards installed, but rather you would just connect the USB cable to both computers, connect your devices, and go.

This would be great for those of us who work with a laptop and a desktop. Just come home and set the laptop down, connect one cable, and you’re connected to everything to which the desktop is connected.
