A few weeks ago, YouTube slapped a 10 minute maximum length on uploaded videos in an attempt to curb illegal videos being served. Due to the public outcry that resulted YouTube is now offering a program called “YouTube Director.” The Director program allows creators of genuine original content to upload clips longer than ten minutes along with a slew of other features. Here are the benefits:
* Logo co-branding, company URL, and company description on all of your video pages
* Ability to upload videos longer than 10 minutes
* Customizable name & value fields for each of your videos (ex: “Price: $4.25″ or “Show Time: 9 pm PST”)
* Ability to attach a per-video URL to each of your videos
Check out the third line in particular. It looks like YouTube is going to allow you to sell your content. This might or might not be a good way for all you up and coming indies to share your content. Make sure you read the fine print, though, some of the licensing seems a bit loose.
