You have to love it when a camcorder review just comes right out and says what needs to be said. CamcorderInfo’s Canon DC100 review doesn’t let you down. Right away, in the first paragraph, the reviewer says this:
… we wish to impart this one little nugget of information: the DC100 is not worth it. At only $20 more (street price), you can pick up the DC10, which has a larger imager, flash media for stills, and larger still sizes. The DC100 was obsolete before it ever hit the shelves.
Ouch. Now, I’m not a big fan of DVD camcorders, but I was thinking the Canon DC100 could deliver just a bit more than that. Apparently Canon thought they could get away with introducing a camcorder that was worse than its predecessor but sell it for the same amount of money.
Compared to the Canon DC10, the DC100 offers a smaller CCD - 1/6″ on the DC100, 1/3.9″ on the DC10. A touchpad is used for menu control on the DC100 rather than joystick control. Overall, I can see why CCInfo voted for the DC10.
