The Panasonic VDR-D300 is the first DVD camcorder built with 3 CCDs, and it looks like Panasonic may have a winner. Digital Trends just posted their review of the camcorder and the reviewer says it is “the best DVD camcorder I have tested to date.” It had better be since it is also one of the most expensive DVD camcorders available on the market.
Featuring 3 CCDs and optical image stabilization, the Panasonic VDR-D300 also includes manual controls, 3.1MP still shots, and the popular Leica lens. The only things the VRD-D300 fell short on were its wind noise filter, bad graphical interface, and battery life that fell short of its 85-minute rating.
If I was to complain about anything, it would be that the reviewer recorded his footage on the highest-quality mode (9Mbps), which only gave 19 minutes of video on the regular 30-minute DVD discs. I wonder how the 30 minute recording mode would have held up.
