dvd405.jpgCNET has just posted their Sony DCR-DVD405 review. They seem to think it above average, but with room to grow. The 2.7″ LCD screen was too small for their tastes when coupled with Sony’s ever-present touch screen menu system. Also, the lack of a wind filter on the microphone made for some noisy outdoor footage. Finally, there were some apparent glitches in video playback at times, something I haven’t heard about before now.

Though it’s not a stellar example of DVD camcorder technology, the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405 delivers above-average video and stills, in a compact, comfortable package. Before you commit, though, give the touch screen an in-store tryout; it can make or break your experience with this product.
