It was a slow weekend for digital camcorders, so I direct your attention to a simple yet very clever little device aptly named the PortaPrompter. This ingenious little device attaches to your tripod mount first, then you mount the digital camcorder on top of the PortaPrompter and, voila, you have yourself a prompter.
All you have to do is print out your script in fonts big enough for your talent to read and run it through the PortaPrompter’s script drum. What’s nice is that the PortaPrompter doesn’t require power and is also very sturdy (i.e. no breaking expensive teleprompter monitors when shooting in the rough).
The price is $248 and shipping is included. Education and government discounts are also available. Even without any discounts, you would be hard pressed to find any sort of teleprompter for less than twice or even three times as much.
