Looks like Sony will be unveiling the very first HD digital camcorder to use the new AVCHD standard of recording as early as this Wednesday. The new camcorder will record high definition footage onto standard 8cm MiniDVDs. 20 minutes of footage will be the maximum amount of time one will be able to record, although in the future the AVCHD format will probably apply more to tapeless camcorders than to direct-to-dvd camcorders.

So mark your calendars, everyone, because I’m sure you won’t want to miss this one … right?
