Panasonic and Sony have announced more specific specifications on the new high definition recording format dubbed AVCHD. For starters they have officially included memory cards and hard disk drives as recording mediums along with the already announced 8cm MiniDVD format.
Also of note is the list of companies who are now officially supporting AVCHD. These companies are Canon, Adobe, Nero, Samsung, Ulead, Sonic, Sharp, Cyberlink, and InterVideo.
Not sure what I think about the new format yet, but with a bit rate of about 24Mbps we could be seeing video that comes somewhat close to HDV quality. The support for 1080i and 24p makes me happy, too.
