Here’s a quick piece of international news via CCInfo regarding the Taiwanese digital camcorder market. Apparently Japanese manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic and JVC drastically slashed prices on their entry-level digital camcorders last quarter in an attempt to force Taiwan manufacturers like Chicony Electronics, Tekom Technologies, and the somewhat familiar Aiptek out of the market.
In the past these Taiwanese brands have focused on entry-level camcorders to take a niche in the market that higher-end manufacturers could not. Now it seems that they may be in trouble as the larger corporations use their clout to slash prices between 33-50%.
