The Canon DC40 review at PC Magazine gives it a thumbs up, especially for the still pictures it produces. The Canon DC40 is Canon’s high-end MiniDVD digital camcorder this year. It features the standard 10x optical zoom, 2.7″ widescreen LCD, and a big 1/2.8″ CCD. It also features 4 megapixel still pictures, which PC Mag’s review is very excited about.
Photos from the Canon DC40 are stored on MiniSD cards, which will frustrate some who already own regular SD cards, the most widespread memory card. If you are interested in the DC40’s still image quality, check out the full review.
Video quality was found to be quite good, with accurate colors, but the reviewer found there was a lack of detail and a somewhat warm tint to the video. The video quality was not as good as the Sony DVD505, but looked superb on a television screen. Importing the files into video editing programs posed no problems either.
Seems to me that Canon fans will find this a great digital camcorder to buy, but there are other options available that should be looked at before taking the plunge.
