Here’s one of those “Duh” tips that you might never have known was available. If you have ever tried playing a MOV file in Quicktime you probably noticed that it looked pretty bad, especially when compared to playing it back inside your editing software. The reason for this is a setting that must be changed inside Quicktime to play back the video at high quality.

This setting is defaulted because older Macs and PCs had a hard time playing full-quality DV MOVs. These days most people don’t have to worry about it because their machines are powerful enough. For Mac & PC users using Quicktime Pro, it is simply a setting that needs to be changed in the options. For Mac users not using Quicktime Pro, visit the original post at FresHDV for a free utility that changes the setting for you.
