Here is some very interesting news on the HD-DVD/Blue-Ray front. Ricoh has come up with a way to read both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs in the same device. Using scientific mumbo-jumbo and optical diffraction, the laser is formed to read the discs at the appropriate place and depth.

Right now this can only be used to read discs because of the power the laser would require to actually write data onto a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc due to the diffraction. On the bright side, we could be seeing hybrid HD-DVD/Blu-Ray players as close as early 2007.
