Verbatim and JVC have just announced the world’s first Mini DVD-R Dual Layer discs. Finally a ray of hope for fans of the direct-to-dvd camcorders. Up until now, DVD camcorders maxed out at 20-30 minutes per DVD on their highest quality modes. Dual Layer MiniDVDs will effectively double the possible recording time available.

Verbatim’s discs will be available the end of August at your favorite retailer at the price of $24.99 for a 3-pack. JVC’s dual layer discs will be debuting in September as single- or triple-packs for a price yet to be set. Right now the only two camcorders announced that will be able to use these are the Canon DC22 and Sony HDR-UX1.
