Tapeless camcorders are slowly making their way into our lives, and the GZ-MG505 is JVC’s latest attempt at a quality product. CNET’s JVC GZ-MG505 review had both pros and cons. On the pro side, the camcorder exhibited little or no noise compared to the previous generations of JVC’s Everio.

However they found that highlights got clipped and there was a lack of contrast and saturation. They also found the same problem with the color red not being recorded accurately as another GZ-MG505 review.

Despite its flaws, the JVC Everio GZ-MG505 is enjoyable to shoot with and can produce video and stills that won’t embarrass you at the next family reunion. Overall it’s neither significantly better nor worse than its primary competitor, the Sony DCR-SR100–it’s just significantly more expensive.
