CamcorderInfo is back at it with their Samsung SC-DC164 review, and once again they come at you like a slap to the face. If the last sentence of a review is, “You may consider yourself warned,” you might want to take heed. Samsung just doesn’t have it yet when it comes to digital camcorders.
The Samsung SC-DC164 is quite a looker when it comes to specs. It features a huge 33x zoom, a 2.7″ widescreen LCD, and a whopping 1/4.5″ CCD. For an entry-level camcorder this is a huge CCD sensor size. The problem is that the size of the sensor doesn’t match up with the quality of the video.
The SC-DC164 does feature a microphone input, a feature sorely missing on many digital camcorders nowadays. Also a plus is the analog input feature, which allows you to record analog video (say from old VHS tapes) to the digital MiniDVD format.
But, again, though the specs may look good, the tests do not. Check out the full review for all the detail.
