JVC has officially released the GY-HD250U, which we first saw hints of this past April. The JVC GY-HD250U clocks in at a higher MSRP than expected: $10,995 w/lens and $9,995 without. However, the HD250U can record in a variety of different formats and has a variety of Pro features that could make it a very worthwhile investment.

The JVC GY-HD250U can record in NTSC or PAL formats at 720p, 480p, and 480i. You can also record at 60 progressive frames per second in 720p (720p/60p). This makes the GY-HD250U quite flexible when it comes to the location and type of production you are planning.

Footage is recorded onto MiniDV tapes or an optional DTE hard disk recorder, the DR-HD100U. You can also choose to record to both mediums at the same time for backup purposes.

The lens can be interchanged for a variety of choices, including Canon and Fujinon lenses. The JVC GY-HD250U is shipped with a standard 16x Fujinon lens.

Among other things there is the genlock capabilities, time code sync, and HD-SDI output to keep you busy with a plethora of different options. The JVC GY-HD250U can even become a studio camera with an optional studio adapter, the KA-HD250, for connection to industry standard 26-pin multicore cabling.

The JVC GY-HD250U should be available very soon at your favorite online retailer.
