Finally had a chance to look over CamcorderInfo’s Sony HDR-UX1 review. The Sony HDR-UX1 is the first HD camcorder to record directly to DVD. As expected, it did not match the HDR-HC3 or the Canon HV10 in video performance. Much of this is due to the fact that it records in AVCHD at nearly half the bitrate of HDV (tape).
CCInfo loved the multifunction ring, the microphone jack, the headphone jack, and the HDMI port on the HDR-UX1. These prosumer features give the HDR-UX1 a little pizzaz and make it more than just a point-and-shoot digital camcorder.
The major issue that would arise with the HDR-UX1 is the fact that, currently, no viable option exists for editing AVCHD video. CCInfo found it hard to even retrieve the footage from the DVD onto their computers. Overall, the Sony HDR-UX1 looks like the camcorder to get for some great prosumer features and quality video, but not for editing capabilities.
