TDK has started development on 8cm Blu-Ray discs, which will hold 16.5GB of data on single-layer discs and potentially up to 33GB on dual-layer 8cm Blu-Ray discs. Keep in mind that this technology is a long way away. Hitachi is planning on implementing Blu-Ray discs into digital camcorders in around two years from now.

Personally I’m still not sure about the whole Straight-To-DVD thing, but if I could get 3 hours of HD footage onto a disc I think it would definitely be more worth it.
