Along with two new entry-level camcorders, the DCR-DVD108 and DCR-DVD308, Sony has also announced two upper-end camcorders to top their 2007 lineup of DVD camcorders. The Sony DCR-DVD408 features a somewhat large 1/3″, 2.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 2.7″ widescreen LCD, and a 10x optical zoom. Other features include a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound microphone, accessory shoe, and the ability to record 4.0 megapixel stills to Memory Stick Pro Duo cards. The top-end DCR-DVD508 includes all this plus a feature that hasn’t been seen for quite some time on a Sony consumer camcorder.
The Sony DCR-DVD508 is at the top of Sony’s MiniDVD lineup this year. It features a 1/2.9″ CMOS sensor with 3.2 gross megapixels. The DCR-DVD508 also includes Optical Image Stabilization, a feature not seen on Sony consumer camcorders for quite some time.
Because of the CMOS sensors, both camcorders feature Sony’s Smooth Slow Record and are able to take pictures while recording. Both camcorders are compatible with DVD-R/RW/+RW/+R DL (dual layer) discs.
Look for the Sony DCR-DVD408 and DCR-DVD508 to both be released in March with MSRPs of $700 and $900, respectively.
