I doubt anyone will be using this camcorder to record their next birthday party, but it is important nonetheless to be aware of the new MicroHDTV camera from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Germany. Smaller than a bar of soap, the MicroHDTV camera sports a huge 2/3″ CMOS sensor, and can record in most HDTV formats including 720i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.
The MicroHDTV camera is controlled via web browser over a standard ethernet connection. Gamma, saturation, white balance, gain, and shutter speed can be controlled and adjusted via the web interface.
Lots and lots of interesting uses for this camcorder come to mind, and I’m sure it will find its way into the broadcasting world with ease. The MicroHDTV camera will be on display at CeBIT in March.
