The wait is over, and CCInfo’s Canon HV20 review is here. Canon definitely knows what they are doing when it comes to camcorders, but would the HV20 live up to its name? The short answer, at least according to CCInfo, is a wholehearted, “Yes!”

Always at the forefront of any camcorder review is the actual quality of of the video. The Canon HV20 delivers in bright light just as well as its predecessor. As for low light, Canon had stated that performance had been improved on the HV20 even though it utilizes the same sensor. The answer is Canon’s newly added 24p capability, whose lower frame rate allows for heightened sensitivity in low light situations. Compared to the Sony HDR-HC7, the reviewer gives Canon the win, “hands down.”

This is also the conclusion the review overall: the Canon HV20 is the winner … for now. The reviewer found that the HV20 doesn’t give quite the control that the HC7 does, so in the next generation of HDV camcorders there could be a switch. For now, it seems that Canon may be reigning champion.
