CamcorderInfo has just posted what may be the cardinal post of the new year for HD camcorders. It’s called, “The Great HD Shoot-Out,” and pits the Canon HV20, the Sony HDR-HC7, the Panasonic HDC-SD1, and the JVC GZ-HD7 against each other. The comparison takes on areas including performance, handling, audio, and manual controls. Through all the different tests certain camcorders shined in their own way, but one camcorder broke through them all to take home the crown as the clear winner.
The Sony HDR-HC7 was great for functionality, the Panasonic SD1 is compact and scored very well in the optical image stabilization tests, and the JVC GZ-HD7’s prosumer-like handling made it comfortable to use.
After all was said and done, though, the Canon HV20 came out ahead of the group. With top video quality and the best low-light performance thanks to its 24p capabilitiy, the Canon HV20 took home the gold and is CamcorderInfo’s top choice so far this year.
