DV has a very nice review of the Sony HVR-V1 (aka V1U for the U.S.) available on their website. They give the Sony HVR-V1 a 4.5 out of 5 score overall. Aiding this is the fact that the Sony HVR-V1 is amazingly lightweight compared to other digital camcorders of its class allowing for ease of use in handheld situations.

Video quality on the Sony HVR-V1 was sharp and up to par, and the 24p mode wasn’t bad either. On the flipside low-light sensitivity did not particularly impress the reviewer, and neither did the noise produced when gain was increased.

The reviewer found that the HVR-V1 had some of the best status-displays to date including a live histogram. Overall DV summed up the Sony HVR-V1 as follows:

Like other HD cameras in this price range, it’s not perfect–just very, very good value for the money.
