Looking for more indication that the Canon HV20 is a good digital camcorder? Check out Digital Trends’ Canon HV20 review, which gives the device an 8.5 out of 10 rating. The reason for this is mainly the fact that the Canon HV20 records to MiniDV tape, a fact that the reviewer finds misplaced in the marketplace that is moving toward tapeless camcorders. However, despite this fact, the bottom line is that, “the Canon HV20 is a memory maker of the first rank.”

For the reviewer, the main thing that stood out was the fact that Canon had fixed the things on the HV20 that were downfalls of its predecessor. Namely, the vertical design and HDMI output, which are both graciously fixed on the Canon HV20.

Also impressive was the Optical Image Stabilization and, as we’ve seen before in the reviews, the image quality. The Canon HV20 is definitely worth it if you want the best quality possible in a consumer HD camcorder and are OK with recording to tape.
