The current issue of Videomaker has two good starter articles on how to shoot and edit multicam events. Unfortunately both articles are crippled in that you don’t get the full text unless you subscribe, but there are some great nuggets to be gleaned from what you can read.
The first article deals with shooting multicam and reinforces the fact that composition is key. Everything should be fluid and natural. Also, don’t forget the 180 rule, which will keep your viewers from getting confused while watching. And finally, don’t forget the cover shot, which always has the action in view and can save your video if you happen to miss anything with the other camcorders.
The editing article contains a few useful bits of information as well. The main thing to remember is to synchronize your camcorders. This can be with a clapboard, a hand clap, or even a still camera flash. It can be anything as long as there is a way to get them in sync.
Read on and I’m sure you will find some things I missed.
