CCInfo has the nitty-gritty on Sony’s hard disk drive upgrades to their popular tapeless camcorders, including the illusive Sony HDR-SR8 we have been waiting for. Many of the camcorder models can now be ordered with more than double their original capacity. Read on for the exact upgrades.

On the standard definition side of things, the Sony DCR-SR42 and DCR-SR62 - both with 30GB hard drives - can now be ordered with a 60GB hard drive as the Sony DCR-SR42A and DCR-SR62A. The DCR-SR82, which packs a 60GB hard drive, can be ordered as the DCR-SR82A with a 100GB drive.

Moving up the chain the Sony DCR-SR200 (40GB) and DCR-SR300 (40GB) become the DCR-SR200C and the DCR-SR300C, both with upgraded 100GB drives.

Finally, the HD camcorder HDR-SR5 has been upgraded to 100GB from 40GB as the HDR-SR5C. The upgrade for the Sony HDR-SR7 is now the HDR-SR8, which is an upgrade from 60GB to 100GB.

All upgrades are only available at SonyStyle.com
. The cost for the upgrade is $100 more up to the SR82A and $200 more from the SR200C on up. All of the standard definition upgrades are available right now, and the HD camcorders will be available July 9th.
