A Japanese broadcast/research organization call NHK has created a 33-million pixel imager that features an effective 7680×4320 resolution. The CMOS sensor is being developed for delivering SHV, or “Super Hi-Vision,” which is 8K by 4K resolution. The sensor is only 2.5 inches in size, and is the first sensor to capture on its own what usually took four 8-megapixel CMOS sensors.
The project is slated for a 2009 release along with a 22.2 channel surround sound system. And believe me, you will not be able to afford it.
