Government Video has a Canon HV20 review online for those of you still wondering if this camcorder is worth it. Like all the other reviews, this one found that the Canon HV20 possesses a high level of video quality for something so small and relatively inexpensive.
The review has some cautions for those with big hands and for those who may be sharing the camcorder with a lot of different people (e.g., students). Overall, though, the camcorder held its own even against such camcorders as the Sony HVR-Z1U.
For its price point, nothing can beat the HV20. Sure, the controls are small, it’s missing many of the professional features you want or need, and I doubt it could take the daily pounding of student use. However, on shoots where I have more control, this is a great B-roll camera that is less obtrusive that the larger HDV offerings.
