Logitech and Carl Zeiss have recently announced a partnership to produce webcam products that will offer “unparalleled image quality for video calling and sharing.” Logitech’s newest webcams can record HD resolution video with their true 2 megapixel sensors.

Two new webcams, the QuickCam Pro 9000 and QuickCam Pro for Notebooks feature the new Carl Zeiss optics and allow video resolution of up to 960×720 pixels at 30fps. If you want that next YouTube production you’re planning to really stand out, pick one of these two webcams up now for $99.99.

And remember, these are absolutely not a substitute for a good, or even cheap, HD camcorder, but if you are looking for a way to produce better quality videos for YouTube or instructional videos on the cheap this looks like a great new way to do it.

Matt Says:

Looks like these are 4:3 only - “video resolution of up to 960×720″ - which isn’t HD because it’s not in widescreen format.

Digital Camcorder News Says:

I see where you are coming from, Matt, but with that line of reasoning, if Logitech decided to make a webcam with 4000×3000 resolution, it would not be considered HD.

Generally, HD refers to anything with a resolution higher than standard definition, which in the case of a webcam is usually 640×480, although perhaps in this instance HD should stand for “higher”-definition.
