Panasonic introduced its HDC-SD5 camcorder today, which will record video in AVCHD format to SD/SDHC memory cards. It sports three, 1/6″ CCDs, which, Panasonic says, makes it the world’s smallest 3CCD full HD camcorder.
Each of the three 1/6″ CCDs on the Panasonic HDC-SD5 has 560K total pixels with 520K effective when recording video. The HDC-SD5 also features a 10x optical zoom, 2.7″ widescreen LCD, and Optical Image Stabilization.
The HDC-SD5 features an internal battery compartment, which makes it even more compact, but means a high-capacity battery may be out of the question.
You will be able to output video directly from the Panasonic HDC-SD5 via HDMI, component, composite, and USB outputs.
Panasonic will be following in other camcorder manufacturer’s footsteps by releasing an optional DVD burner, the VW-BN1, which will allow you to copy or play videos in AVCHD format on your HDTV. It will ship in September for $199.95.
The Panasonic HDC-SD5 will be available in September for $999.95. If you want to be the first to get this camcorder, Amazon.com is taking pre-orders right now.
