Quick out the door and into the camcorder review pile is CamcorderInfo with their Canon HG10 review. Mind you, this camcorder was officially announced August 1st, so Canon is definitely on the ball with giving out camcorders for review. In theory this could mean that they believe they have a very solid camcorder, but how will the Canon HG10 hold up to a rigorous testing?

Video performance on the Canon HG10 was a mixed bag. Color performance was exemplary, even standing up to the revered Canon HV20 in many cases. Sharpness was also good, but not as sharp as its sibling. On the other hand, the coveted 24P effect that Canon is touting on all its new camcorders, “looks terrible.” There was a stuttering, choppy effect in any pan or tilt that destroyed whatever shot it was. CCInfo believes this may come as a result of the AVCHD compression that the HG10 uses.

Low light performance was just OK. Because the Canon HG10’s 24P capability, at least to CCInfo, is pretty much dead, the resulting improvement in low-light performance when it is enabled is nullified.

Nevertheless, when all is said and done, CamcorderInfo calls the Canon HG10, “the best [HDD camcorder] on the market.” It would seem that Canon has done it once again, playing the conservative game and coming out later with a camcorder that dominates the rest of the market in quality.
