DXG has announced the DXG-572 camcorder, which has an amazing set of features that make you wonder how in the world you could get this much value for only $149 (you can’t). The DXG-572V records MPEG4 video footage at 640×480, 30fps. It includes a true 5-megapixel CMOS sensor, 4x digital zoom, and a 2″ LCD screen.

Your video can be stored to the DXG-572’s SD card slot. It looks like there is no support for SDHC cards. Video can be shared and uploaded to popular online video sites via the USB 2.0 connection

The DXG-572 is powered by 4 AA batteries, a little different from your run of the mill camcorder.

Now, I’m not going to say that no one should buy this camcorder - there is definitely a market for it out there (give it to your kids) - but please, please don’t record precious memories to a camcorder like this one. 20 years down the line you will kick yourself when you want to watch your kids when they were young.

Get it for your kids to mess around with, unless quality doesn’t matter.

They claim a high quality image. You do not get a high quality video with this camera. My Samsung digital still camera produces better video in video mode. This is just a good toy. Fuzzy images. Blurred motions (kind of a weird glow following moving objects).

I should just make sample recordings and put them on YouTube and link to them, then let people decide for themselves.

The best thing I got from buying this thing was the software. Pretty decent video editing software…not fancy…just decent.
