Videomaker reviews the JVC GZ-HD7 camcorder and points out many of the same things that other reviews are finding. The body of the GZ-HD7 is very appealing, feeling solid and sturdy in the hands and having a lot of room for buttons and controls. It allows for long recording times and even has a microphone jack (but no headphone jack) for external audio inputs. So what’s not to love?
Video performance is the most important attribute of any camcorder to most users. While the JVC GZ-HD7 looks great on paper, it seemed to falter when placed under the lens of the reviewer. The JVC GZ-HD7’s image is described as, “good, but not above average.” Noise was visible even in some non-dark areas, and ghosting would occur in moving images and panning shots.
Auto white balance, auto exposure, and auto focus also had their own issues on the HD7, mostly involving speed. The optical image stabilizer seemed a little less ineffective than other camcorders.
The JVC GZ-HD7 is a hard camcorder not to love on paper, but make sure you take a look at all the reviews available (try the search box above) before you make your final decision.
