So it seems that the Panasonic SDR-H18 slipped past the radar here at Digital Camcorder News (although I think it’s just the U.S. version of the Panasonic SDR-H20), but CNET has the lowdown in their Panasonic SDR-H18 review. The H18 records standard definition video to a 30GB hard drive or SD/SDHC card. It has a 1/6″, 680K CCD, 32x optical zoom, and a 2.7″ widescreen LCD. The Panasonic H18 got itself a 7.4 out of 10 rating, and here’s why:
CNET found that the Panasonic SDR-H18’s single sensor held its own, producing enough detail and “generally accurate” colors that were just a little washed out. Auto white balance was good in most situations excluding fluorescent lighting, which got a little greenish tint to it. Autofocus was also quick and accurate.
Overall, the Panasonic SDR-H18 looks like a very nice camcorder for those who want a camcorder that is simple, has good quality, records to HDD or memory card, and is sub-$500.
