Out with a Sony DCR-DVD508 review is CCInfo, who give it a good going over to find out that Sony’s decision to up the pixels on the sensor seriously detracted from the camcorder’s low-light performance. One of the biggest new features over last year’s model is the OIS, which proved very effective. Also, the increased resolution on the sensor also made the image much more crisp in bright light.

However, despite these upgrades, the Sony DCR-DVD508 still faltered in the low-light arena, which is a little surprising, since they are usually one of the best in that area. They even reduced the whopping 3.5″ LCD on last year’s model to a decidedly smaller 2.7″ widescreen LCD.

All these things make CCInfo recommend finding last year’s model, the Sony DCR-DVD505, and buying it online instead of the DVD508, or even stepping down to the DVD408, the next model down the line.
