The end of the year is almost upon us, and accordingly CamcorderInfo has announced their choices for best camcorders of the year in a number of different categories. The Canon HV20 took home the most awards, winning the “Best Under $1000,” “Best HDV,” “Best High Definition,” and the all-important “Camcorder of the Year” award (which was predicted in Digital Camcorder News’ very own Canon HV20 Review).

Some other notables were the Canon HG10 as “Best High-End HDD/Flash” and Sony’s DCR-HC96 as “Best Under $600″ and “Best MiniDV.” Keep in mind that the HC96 is almost two years old, which means that standard definition camcorders are definitely on their way out as manufacturers stop putting money into R&D.
