JVC has released the specs for four new additions to their popular HDD line of digital camcorders. The GZ-MG21 and GZ-MG27 will hold 20GB, or about 4.5 hours of Ultra quality, while the GZ-MG37 and GZ-MG77 will hold 30GB, or about 7 hours on Ultra quality. All four include a new feature that allows direct-to-DVD burning using compatible external DVD burners, eliminating the need for a PC. Also, transfer speeds when connected to a PC via USB 2.0 have been cut almost in half. 4GB of data (about an hour of Ultra quality video) will transfer in about 5 minutes.
Both the GZ-MG21 and the GZ-MG27 feature a 1/6″ 680K CCD. The GZ-MG27 has a larger 2.7″ screen than the GZ-MG21’s 2.5″. Both also have a whopping 32x optical zoom, and still pictures can be taken at 640×480.
The 30GB models both feature 2.7″ LCD screens. Past that both differ in specs greatly. The GZ-MG37 offers the same 1/6″ 680K CCD as the smaller capacity models. It also boasts a 32x optical zoom and 640×480 stills. The GZ-MG77 features a larger 1/3.9″ 2.2M CCD, which can take still shots up to 1632×1224 (about 2.0 megapixels). As usual in cameras with larger stills, the optical zoom is cut down to only 10x optical. For low light situations, it also features an F1.2 lens.
The bottom three models will be available this month, with prices between $600 and $800, while the GZ-MG77 will be available sometime in March with a price yet to be determined.
