Sanyo is releasing a new version of its VPC-HD1 camcorder, which will be dubbed the VPC-HD1a. The Sanyo VPC-HD1 records 720p footage onto memory cards. Consumers will rejoice that the price will be dropping to $699. However, the price adjustment does come with its drawbacks as well.

For the smaller price tag, you will be losing the OLED (Organic LED) display, which will be replaced with a standard 2.2″ LCD display. OLEDs require less power than traditional LCD displays.

Upgrades on the Sanyo VPC-HD1a include 16:9 stills, 30fps instead of 15fps in 320×240 mode, and an in-camera editing mode. This new editing mode is described as, “enabling quick A>B deletions and easy combining of clips.” The faster frames per second at 320×240 resolution is an effort to make video production for iPods and other portable media players as easy as possible using the HD1a.

The Sanyo VPC-HD1a will be released in September of this year for the price of $699.

I order my Sanyo vpc-CA6 from bwayphoto.com. I had a horrible experience trying to order from these people. The sales person tried to high pressure me into buying upgrade packages, etc. They requested that I call to \”verify\” my order. When I called, I was told that I had to add $100.00 worth of extras. They were highly pressured and their prices for add-ons were way above MSRP. They tried to sell me an extended life battery, because they claimed that the battery that the camera came with was just a \”demo\” battery, and would not last more than a few minutes. This is a complete lie. When I told the man that I did not need any of it and to cancel my order, he hung up on me.

I’m the lucky one. My order was cancelled. I heard that some victims will be told that \”the order is shipped and cannot be canceled\”. If you reject the delivery and the order returns to them, the shipping fee and 15% restoring fee will be charged for sure. I guess this is the way they make money.

If you do not want to be another, just pass them over. It was such a horrible experience. And, I\’ll try to put the word out on every review site I can. DANGER, STAY AWAY FROM THIS RETAILER!

I ordered a Sanyo Xacti CA6 through digitalliquidators.com, an alias for broadway photo. I had an eerily similar experience to John. I had to call to ‘verify’ my order, which is when the sales rep tried to upsell me on many items, which I declined. I was told the battery would only last for 20 minutes.

I was originally calling because I had placed my order online at 6am in the morning with overnight shipping and then had to make multiple phone calls during the same day, just to get them to actually ship the order out at all, and even so it did not ship out until the next day. They refused to credit any shipping charges.
